Experimental dynamic assessment of critical infrastructures and development of smart monitoring systems

報(bào)告內(nèi)容:Advances in sensing technologies and wireless transmission facilitate the installation of large sensor networks for monitoring the health of several critical infrastructures, thus enabling their assessment and intelligent management throughout the lifetime. On the other hand, the massive diffusion of wireless sensing systems also poses new technological challenges. Besides the search for energy-efficient solutions, the design of innovative energy harvesting techniques can play a central role on the diffusion of wireless sensing systems in the near future. Amongst the emerging techniques in this field, vibrations-powered wireless sensor nodes are especially promising for structural engineering applications. Within this framework, the talk aims at presenting some results about the experimental assessment of critical infrastructures and the development of smart monitoring systems. Initially, the experimental dynamic characterization of a cable-stayed bridge in Italy will be examined [1].  This infrastructure will be used as experimental case-study for the second part of the talk, in which the numerical analysis of vibrations-based piezoelectric energy harvesters for smart wireless monitoring systems will be addressed [2]. The talk will be also complemented with a short overview about ongoing researches in the fields of structural dynamic monitoring, seismic protection and concrete structures.

 

報(bào)告人簡介: Giuseppe Quaranta received the Doctorate degree in Structural Engineering from Sapienza University of Rome (Italy) in 2011. After a one-year appointment as Post-Doctoral Scholar with the University of California Davis (USA), he joined the Department of Structural and Geotechnical Engineering at Sapienza University of Rome as Assistant Professor in 2012. He also received the National Habilitation for the position of Associate Professor in 2015. His scientific researches deal with structural dynamic monitoring (sensor network design, identification and diagnostic), passive devices for seismic protection and concrete structures (reinforced concrete structures and truss-reinforced composite steel-concrete beams). He has authored or co-authored over 50 scientific papers in journals, books and conferences.
